A Prayer for Sight and Light

St Lucy's day today. Virgin and martyr of Sicily, she has been invoked for centuries by those afflicted by blindness and other ailments of the eyes; let us commend those who suffer such illness to her prayers. She is also a saint of light, one who brings the light of Christ to those who invoke her. If ever we need light, we need it now. So, may St Lucy pray that Christ may fill us all with his light and guide on the sure path of fidelity and holiness.

For your devotion today, the Litany of St Lucy. As you pray it, please remember some people who have commended themselves to my prayers for the healing of their eyes. Thank you.

Holy Mary, Mother of God,

   pray for us.
Saint Lucy, gifted with surpassing beauty and wisdom,
   pray for us.

Saint Lucy, courageous in her answer to the pagan judge,
   pray for us.
Saint Lucy, strengthened by the grace of God,

Saint Lucy, whose hands and feet were tied with cords,
   pray for us.
Saint Lucy, who was thrown into a fiery furnace,
   pray for us.
Saint Lucy, whose neck was cut asunder by the executioner,
   pray for us.

Saint Lucy, who did prophesize the defeat of cruel tyrants,
   pray for us.
Saint Lucy, who did offer her life for God,
   pray for us.
Saint Lucy, martyred for the faith of Christ,
   pray for us.
Saint Lucy, who restores sight to the blind,
   pray for us.
Saint Lucy, who works many miracles,
   pray for us.
Saint Lucy, who won the crown of martyrdom,
   pray for us.
Lamb of God, Who takes away the sins of the world,
   Spare us, O Lord.

Let Us Pray

Almighty and Eternal God, Who did protect your servant Saint Lucy, on earth and did bestow on her the crown of martyrdom in Heaven, grant us also Your protection here below, and bestow on us the crown of glory in Heaven. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen
